The movie Society of the Snow begins with the scenario of October 13, 1972. Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashes in the unforgiving Andes Mountains, leaving 45 people on board. Only 16 survivors face the brutal reality of their situation: trapped in a desolate glacier with dwindling resources and low temperatures.
The fight for survival, shock and pain give way to a desperate fight for life. In the face of hunger, injury, and the harsh elements, survivors must band together. They search for food in the rubble, huddle together for warmth, and ration their meager supplies of wine and chocolate.
The Moral Dilemma As hunger becomes unbearable, a horrible decision looms: resort to the unthinkable to soothe their stomachs? This ethical question pushed the survivors to face their limits and redefine their humanity.
Two of the survivors, Roberto Canessa and Nando Parrado, embark on a dangerous journey across the Andes to reach Chile and raise the alarm. Their journey through treacherous terrain brings them to their physical and mental breaking points, testing their resolve.
After 72 days of unimaginable hardship, Canessa and Parrado find help, leading to the rescue of the remaining survivors. Back in civilization, the group deals with the trauma of their ordeal and the ethical gray areas they went through.
